THIS GIRL
Olivia Anna Livki is a singer, songwriter, vicious Post Punk bassist, arranger, filmmaker and producer of a sound
called Global Voice’n’Bass (but often referred to as Worldbeat Postpunk). Melodic hooky anthems
sung by a passionate voice upon the raw sound of bass. Wild beats, African battle drums, orchestras, choirs and
strings, transferring it into a wall of sound. Olivia Anna Livki’s sound-universe is a surreal and megalomaniac
Postpunk-Spector-movie telling the story of a global nightmare of 2011.
Born in Poland and raised in Germany, she began exploring her voice and songwriting upon electric bass when she
was 17, making her first demos on her laptop and finishing her self- produced studio-demo The Smiling Face of
Progress in 2008. Her childhood-loves were Hip Hop and Aretha Franklin. Her teenage years were all about New York
Punk and Artrock. But she grew fascinated with sound-architects like Brian Eno and Kate Bush. She keeps saying she
wants to make records that “inspire and smother tormented minds”. Sometimes she simply says she makes “geek
records”.
After Film studies, she began gigging in Berlin and NYC. Playing in very unimpressive underground holes forced her
to work on the intensity of her performance, as well as the visual translation of her sound: tribal feathers, painted tights
and flashy-coloured costumes became part of her live-act, while she developed to a stage-mistress of endless
devotion and manic energy, who kicks off her shoes and does minute-long African dancing in between songs.
In 2009, Livki directed and edited a stop motion-animation video to her demo of Hologram and a live-video called Girl
vs.City. Both spent two years on youtube hardly noticed till an appearance on a tv show caused an overnight-cult in
the internet community. Tel Aviv and her demos were shared by thousands of fans, which pushed Livki s career
quickly forward. She gave a bass-only performance on Polskie Radio Czworka. Her second single Tennis Rackets will
be featured in the movie Big Love (theatrical release by end of this year), and her highly anticipated debut-album The
Name of this Girl is Olivia Anna Livki will be presented at Off Festival 2011 and released by end of August 2011.
Off Festival will also be the debut for her explosive live-lineup with drummer.
THIS ALBUM
The Name of this Girl is Olivia Anna Livki (August 2011) is Olivia Anna Livki’s first official release. Written, arranged,
and produced by herself and mixed by acclaimed engineer Patrick Dillett (Everything That Happens Will Happen
Today, Here Lies Love).
The concept-album is an introduction to Livki’s terrifying, black-humor- universe. A sound-movie inspired by the very
topical Akira. A falling skyscraper constructed out of battle-drums, voice-armies, orchestras and percussions. She
performed all the vocals, basses and some of the African drums, did all the programming and editing. The album is
also her statement to pop music and life in the year 2011. With no lies, no sex and no videotape involved. Of
neighbors and family members claiming that Satan is 33 and lives in Tel Aviv, tv license fee-executors who harass
young girls, girl gangs making violent reality shows, fear of unemployment and global catastrophy, ambitions, and the
phantasm of changing the world like 25 year-old billionaires.
