Flogging Molly is an Irish-American band playing music known as celtic punk rock. The group was founded by Dave King, an Irish immigrant, and American violinist Bridget Regan in Los Angeles in 1997.
In an interview with Kerrang! Magazine, Dave King explained that the band's name comes from "Molly Malone's," an Irish pub from Los Angeles. "We used to play there every Monday night and we felt like we were flogging it to death, so we called the band Flogging Molly."
The band released 6 studio albums, and the last of them titled "Life is Good" was released in 2017. As the main inspirations, the group mentions, among others, The Pogues, The Dubliners, The Clash, Sex Pistols and Johnny Cash.
